Created in 2007, the natural reserve of Cala Ratjada has a surface of 11.000 hectare and is about 30 minutes away by boat from Cala Bona harbour.
The coast offers you some spectacular sights with numerous cliffs of originally limestone, reason for the numerous sea caves. The coast line is an alternation of rocky areas and little beaches with fine sand, some of them even virgin.
The most characteristic species in these waters of the reserve are groupers, scorpion fishes and brown meagre. Also crustacean like the Mediterranean slipper lobster, the European lobster and the spiny lobster. In the soft sea-bottom shelter the emblematic species like the noble pen shell or the pearly razor fish. Some species like the common dolphin-fish or cuttlefish gather here as well in the waters of the marine reserve.
Fishing is very restricted here and you can only dive there if you have a previous permission or if you are diving with an authorized diving centre like Albatros Diving.
- The best dive is in the marine reserve and is called “The big cheese”. Simply spectacular!
